"Your little eyelids flutter 'cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
To you, everything's funny, you got nothing to regret
I'd give you all I have, honey, if you could stay like that..."
We're getting old, guys. Less than a week before another semester of classes is done and done, less than a month before I officially become a...a...senior in college?? The Vandy time warp has struck again, and yet again I have no idea where the past four months of my life have gone. It's unreal!
As I continue to get closer and closer to the ever-approaching "real world," I can't help but feel a teeny bit jealous when I see little kids wearing just diapers while they play in the sun or screaming with laughter in the middle of a silent room. Remember when things were that simple?
In one of the little twists of irony that are so characteristic of my life, the other morning as I was preparing my resume for an appointment at the career center, Taylor Swift's "Never Grow Up" wound its way through my speakers: "Oh, I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up, could still be little." Apparently Taylor sympathizes with my aversion to adulthood. While I definitely wouldn't want to trade in the experiences, lessons, and adventures I've been blessed to collect over the years, sometimes I just wish I could put down my books, not show up for work, run through a sprinkler while eating a popsicle, and call it a day!
"Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple..."
